Dr. Mary Sedgwick is a physician with training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, a motivator and go-getter who specializes in showing the effects of courage, determination, and persistence to bring out effective change in one's personal life and in business. She delivers her messages from personal experiences intertwined with humor and entertainment.
Mary graduated from Armwood High School in Seffner, Florida, in 1988 lettering in 4 sports with a GPA over 4.0. She went on to Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina on a Presidential academic scholarship where she graduated cum laude majoring in biochemistry taking several of the upper level science courses by herself.
Dr. Sedgwick has her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine and attended residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. After years of medical training, Mary knows personally the experience of what living life day to day as a patient with a chronic illness is like, yet she is determined to live each day to its fullest.
During Dr. Sedgwick's fourth year of medical school, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a demyelinating neurological disorder. Despite her diagnosis, she decided to pursue her dream of providing women's health care. Over the years, the visual condition associated with Multiple Sclerosis, Optic Neuritis, continued to progress. In late 2000, Dr. Sedgwick decided to resign from practice due to her vision loss rendering her unable to safely operate.
Through the devastation, she was only left to be hit by multiple medical problems, hospitalizations and surgeries during the following years. In March of 2004, Mary woke up to discover she had lost all her sight except light perception. With only her inner strength and faith to draw upon, Mary made a personal declaration that neither her blindness nor any other medical illness would hold her down.
Mary has taken her situation and all the challenges and turned them into opportunities that have evolved into wondrous successes with many more to come. Dr. Sedgwick's messages are of taking the hand you are dealt with in life and living. Mary firmly believes in living her life with persistence, determination, courage, and most of all, a sense of humor.
