A presentation of my personal life story of loss, grief, and acceptance of multiple sclerosis and blindness eventually leading to a life where mornings are worth waking up to the sunshine. I was diagnosed during medical school but was hit hard when I was a doctor in residency as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist and had to resign from delivering babies and performing surgeries. Multiple-Sclerosis kept attacking my body, robbing me of my vision leaving me in the dark with no way out. I know firsthand the devastating effects MS can have on one's life physically and emotionally. MS came into my life like a tornado and turned it upside down leaving behind a disaster of bones and flesh. There were days that I felt life was better without me and I was better without life. MS doesn't stop at restricting movement or preventing vision. MS ripped right to my core and tore it apart piece by piece as I struggled with life. From somewhere deep within, I found a light, the strength to rise above and get back out into the world. I found the power to put the pieces of a broken soul back together and in the process I discovered my voice. I realized I had a message to share and the passion and desire to do so. I took a giant leap and started my own small business, MountainTop Endeavors, as a motivational speaker completely turning my life around. I now speak about my life's story about the grief and the loss and the tragedy and the courage, determination, and persistence I portrayed to rise above adversity. I have found a life that is fulfilling, rewarding, and well worth living. MS once had a hold of my life but that time has passed. I now live my life full of courage, hope, passion, and a will for the future. Sit back and listen to my inspiring story of rise and fall and rise back into society with a life worth living and I'm living it to the fullest!

A presentation showing the effects that Multiple Sclerosis has on one physically, emotionally and socially from first hand experience. Multiple Sclerosis is a devastating disease disabling many young women predominantly with effects that stretch far beyond the physically obvious symptoms. As an individual and a physician with multiple-sclerosis, I will talk personally and freely about the effects this devastating disease has had on my life. Multiple-Sclerosis came into my life and bit by bit reached deep down to my soul and tore it apart as I lost my career as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist and I entered a world of emotional darkness. I will speak of how I dealt with the ongoing physical symptoms especially my vision loss while dealing with the emotional turmoil as I began to find the strength to face the disease head on. Finding the courage and inner power to take my life back from the grip of multiple sclerosis I began to live my life and not allow MS to live it for me. Allow yourself to take this emotional journey of courage and determination that shows the power of the human spirit.

A presentation on how acts of humor promote well-being with its own flare of humor. In my life, I have quickly learned that one always has choices. From the moment I was diagnosed with Multiple-Sclerosis my choices began as to whether or not I should give up on a medical career or not allow the disease to take over my life. I chose to not allow the disease to take over my life and kept on living, and in living, I chose to keep my sense of humor foremost in my life. It was in my laughter that I found the strength to lift my legs or keep hold of a cup and not drop it. It was my smiling face that got me through the grueling hours of residency and the practical jokes that fueled my fire to keep my hands steady as I operated. I wasn't given the nickname "Patch" by mistake . . . just think of Patch Adams and you are right on track. Even as my vision slipped away, it was and is my sarcastic sense of humor that lights my way through the day. They say that laughter is the best medicine and I have to agree. I might even go further to say laughter is lifesaving medicine for some of us. Follow me through my career as we discover the laughter that exists as a motivator to heal and to find the brighter side of life one laugh at a time.
